The Department of Nursing offers a graduate
program leading to a Master of Science in Nursing with a clinical focus
in population-based (advanced public/community health) nursing. Students
select a population of focus and are prepared to assume leadership roles
in the creation of health care systems which will provide equality of
access, high standards of care and caring, and the cost-effective use of
resources.
The concentration in Academic Education prepares Nursing Faculty to teach
in Nursing Programs at both community college and four-year universities.
This program is also appropriate for advanced practice nurses interested
in population health education and health education programming.
The concentration in School Nursing meets the California State
requirements for the School Nurse Credential. The graduate will
concurrently receive the Master of Science in Nursing and the School
Nurse Credential.
Graduates who complete the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) requirements
are prepared for state certification in public/community health nursing
and/or school nursing and National Board Certification (AACN) in
public/community health nursing.
