Q Is it difficult to get into the nursing program?
A Yes! There are more students who want to get into the CSUSB nursing program than there are spaces available. Plan ahead! The higher your grades, the better your chances are of being admitted to the program.

Q Can I enter the program if I am an international student?
A No. The Nursing program does not accept international students. Only California permanent residents are admitted.

Q How are applicants selected for admission?
A Applicants are selected by GPA, completion of support courses and Health Care Experience (if applicable). Any student with a 3.0GPA and a complete application is considered.

Q Does the department offer a fast track for those who already have a Bachelor degree in another field.
A NO. A bachelor degree may assist with completion of general education requirements. IF a student already holds a previous degree s/he will still have to complete our three year program in order to obtain a BS in Nursing and be eligible for the RN exam.

Q How many years does it take to complete the nursing program?
A The nursing courses are taken in sequence and it takes three years to complete the entire sequence. NOTE: If you receive less than a "C" in any nursing course, you will not be able to continue the sequence. You may repeat the same course the next time it is offered. Students in this situation must apply by letter for re-admission to the program pending space available.

Q Can I attend classes on a part-time basis?
A Yes, but it is difficult. Students planning for part-time study should complete the GE requirements first so that they may take the nursing courses in the required sequence.

Q Are there nursing courses in the evening?
A Nursing courses are usually offered during the day and late afternoon/early evening. Lecture classes are offered two or three days a week, two hours per day. The lab classes are usually offered one or two days a week from 7 am to 1 pm and/or one day a week from 7 am to 7 pm.

Q What if I want to transfer from another nursing program to your program?

Write a letter of interest to Department Chair, submit letter of recommendation from current Nursing Dean/Chair, letter of recommendation from Nursing Instructor and Clinical Instructor, submit official transcripts along with nursing course descriptions.
